Resolutions

It has always been my resolution to never make resolutions.
I think that I probably would never follow through with anything that I resolved, so why bother? However, this year, I'm making a resolution - and I'm going to do my very best to stick with it.

My resolution - to be in God's Word EVERY SINGLE day. I heard the collective gasp. There are some of you who I know are so faithful to read God's Word every day. And then there are others who, like me, miss a day or two or ten. This year. I'm not missing.

I found one of those "read-the-Bible-through-in-a-year" things on Biblegateway. I'm going to attempt it, although my resolution isn't to necessarily read the entire Bible through in a year....my resolution is to just be in His Word every day. Wherever He takes me...that's where I'm going to read.

Anybody else up for the challenge? I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that He will bless my reading and "show me great and mighty things which I know not!" (That's in there somewhere...)

Or perhaps you have made another resolution.... please feel free to share!

Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom,
that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book,
from the one before the priests, the Levites.
And it shall be with him,
and he shall read it all the days of his life,
that he may learn to fear the LORD his God
and be careful to observe all the words of this law
and these statutes,
that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren,
that he may not turn aside from the commandment
to the right hand or to the left,
and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom,
he and his children in the midst of Israel.
-Deuteronomy 17:18-20

Last year, I made ONE new year's resolution - to make MONTHLY resolutions, about 4-5 of them. Each month became like new year's day for me, and although I failed many times it was the chance to renew next month that saw me reading through the Bible in 7 months, losing 10 pounds, and becoming UNaddicted to Mtn. Dew by the end of the year! Last year was the first time I was ever successful at getting through the whole year with my goals unforgotten.

I know you'll be blessed with reading the Bible like you are attempting. Don't be too hard on yourself if/when you miss a day (evil loves to point out our faults to the point of discouragement.) I greatly admire and applaud your goal!

Dear Deb...Today is the first day of the new year...I am going to take up the challenge along with you!
Last night one of the young fellows gave us a short message from the Bible.
He said, "This is the verse I am giving you for the new year...Gen. 1:1.."In the beginning God...."
He said that if God is what we start with, that is all we need!"
How great is THAT Deb?

Have a blessed New Years, you and your whole family!....Love Terry

My church sent out a "Read the Bible Through in a Year" thing which I opened today. I thought about doing it with the kids, but I just realized the day is over, they're in bed, and I neglected to read a word to them.

:(

Thanks for the reminder.

So, does anyone want to start a blog on reading the Bible? I have really gotten into God's Word lately with some struggles I have had with doctrine in churches. I not only found the answers to my questions, but so much more. It's all a matter of opening it up. The Book found in more homes in America than any other. (Unfortunately in unused condition too many times) I just got a new Women's Study Bible and my goal is to wear it out!

Deb, I am so happy to see you doing this. It's a daily reminder to me of God's love..and of laminin and such. What a good idea to make monthly resolutions, too. Of course that fits me better with my mood fluctuations. Fifty is a party, although one day it is a Birthday Party and the next it can be a pity party. Smiles and Hugs and Happy, Blessed New Year everyone! Happy reading!
