Illustration Friday - Insect

Praying Mantis, originally uploaded by beyondhope.

I've always loved the Praying Mantis. They're so gentle --never scurrying away when encountered. They're fascinating to look at and to hold.
And the female --after it mates --bites off the head of the male! ha!

I think that's why I admire them so much! Come on...admit it...there are days when you'd like to bite off your husband's head! teehee!

Yeah, praying mantis is my favorite as well, something cute and almost like a really tiny person, I kinda like that biting off head part to.

I really like this! When I was 3 and 4 my family lived in Guam. We had a "pet" praying mantis that lived on our window screen and we would give it honey from a toothpick. Fun memory to have... :)

Beautiful work...I also think the preying mantis is pretty amazing to look at. I have had many occasions when I've been right near one and didn't even notice...they blend so well! Then I'd have a bit of a shock! great work:>

Very nice mantis! Well done indeed. And one of my favorite insects overall, too.

Love the cool green-to-blue palette you have chosen. Very alluring and suited to the direct stare of the subject matter.
